Founding AI Engineer Retrieval and Knowledge Layer

<p>Lokalaise builds local AI infrastructure for companies that cannot move sensitive knowledge into cloud AI systems.</p> <p>We deploy AI inside customer-controlled environments and connect it to file servers, SharePoint, Outlook, project folders, technical documents and internal knowledge bases. Our stack combines local inference, secure connectors, permission-aware retrieval, citations and audit trails.</p> <p>We are a small founder-led team in Hamburg with live customer deployments. As a Founding Full Stack Engineer, you will work directly with the founders and help turn early deployments into a repeatable product. This is an office-first, hands-on role for someone who wants to build core product and infrastructure from the ground up.</p> <h2>Tasks</h2> <ul> <li>Develop and implement AI models for local inference that integrate seamlessly with customer-controlled environments, ensuring data privacy and security.</li> <li>Design and build secure connectors to interface with existing systems such as file servers, SharePoint, Outlook, and internal knowledge bases, facilitating efficient data retrieval and processing.</li> <li>Collaborate with the team to refine and enhance the company's platform, focusing on permission-aware retrieval, citations, and audit trail capabilities.</li> <li>Engage directly with customers to gather feedback, troubleshoot deployment issues, and iterate on solutions to meet evolving business needs.</li> <li>Contribute to shaping the engineering culture of the company by embracing values of accountability, innovation, and teamwork, while fostering a learning environment.</li> </ul> <h2>Requirements</h2> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.</li> <li>Proven experience in designing and implementing AI and machine learning systems, preferably in data infrastructure and analytics.</li> <li>Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, with experience in using open-source AI frameworks and tools.</li> <li>Experience with deploying AI solutions in customer-controlled environments, ensuring data security and compliance with audit trails.</li> <li>Excellent problem-solving abilities with a collaborative mindset, aligning with our values of teamwork, innovation, and ownership.</li> </ul> <h2>Benefits</h2> <ul> <li>Career Training</li> <li>Company laptop</li> <li>Company stock options</li> <li>Free beverages</li> <li>Free snacks</li> <li>Public transportation benefits</li> <li>Sport membership</li> </ul> <p>Join Lokalaise as a Founding AI Engineer to shape groundbreaking local AI solutions.
