Job description
**Overview**
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high\-quality care to animals. You will be responsible for various tasks that ensure the well\-being of our patients while also assisting with administrative duties at the clinic. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care, excellent communication skills, and a passion for working with animals.
**Responsibilities**
* Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for animals.
* Perform animal handling and restraint techniques to facilitate examinations and treatments.
* Administer medications as directed by veterinarians or technicians, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
* Provide basic animal husbandry, including feeding, grooming, and exercising animals in our care.
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including kennels and treatment areas.
* Assist with laboratory tasks such as sample collection and processing when needed.
* Utilize veterinary terminology effectively in communication with team members and clients.
* Support front desk operations by greeting clients, scheduling appointments, and managing records as necessary.
* Monitor animal behavior and health status, reporting any changes to the veterinary staff promptly.
**Qualifications**
* Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role is preferred.
* Familiarity with veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy knowledge, and aseptic techniques is essential.
* Experience in kennel management or animal husbandry is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of medication administration protocols is important for this position.
* Experience with equine care or veterinary critical care is a plus but not required.
* Strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients and team members are necessary.
