Job description

About LessonUp LessonUp is a leading platform and educational software-as-a-service (SaaS) for teachers. We equip teachers with a range of innovative tools and resources that help them to create engaging and effective learning experiences. Our mission is to empower teachers to create the most engaging, joyful, and effective learning moments. Our ambition is to support 1 million teachers worldwide and to make a positive impact on the education of the next generations. About the role We are looking for a senior Platform Automation Engineer to own our cloud platform and supercharge developer velocity. In this role, your center of gravity is infrastructure, DevOps, and platform engineering. You will tackle a dual mission: owning and evolving our core GCP production infrastructure, tackling technical debt, managing cloud resources, and ensuring production reliability, while radically shortening the time between a developer writing code and knowing whether it works. You will not be authoring daily QA tests; our developers and QA engineers own the actual test suites. Instead, your focus is platform enablement. You will build, scale, and maintain the underlying cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and per-PR ephemeral environments that allow those tests to run flawlessly, empowering the team to deploy reliable code to production at high velocity. What you’ll do Own Production Infrastructure & GCP Roadmap: Take ownership of our GCP environment. Tackle pending technical debt, optimise cloud resource allocation, and ensure production systems are secure, performant, cost-effective, and built to scale. Provide Per-PR Ephemeral Environments: Architect and manage ephemeral environments that allow engineers to spin up fully functional instances of our app for every pull request, making testing and QA review fast, isolated, and painless. Run E2E Tests Frequently and Reliably: Own the operation and execution of our testing frameworks (Playwright, Jest, Cucumber) in CI. Focus on wiring tests into ephemeral environments, optimising parallelisation, and ruthlessly reducing flakiness so developers get immediate, trustworthy feedback. Optimise CI/CD & Developer Workflows: Streamline build, test, and deployment pipelines to minimise developer wait times and establish robust release mechanisms. Enable the Engineering Team: Provide the APIs, data-preparation tools, and CI/CD integrations that developers and QA need to write, maintain, and trust their own test suites seamlessly.
