**Infectious Disease Physician (MD/DO) \- UNC Health Rex**
**Summary:**
Provides professional medical services to patients.
**Responsibilities:**
* Provides professional medical services to patients, both in\-person and in a virtual setting.
* Exercises independent professional judgment in the care and treatment of patients.
* Orders and prescribes medical treatment, diagnostic testing, nursing care and other health and medical services. Prescribes medically appropriate pharmaceuticals.
* Consults and counsels with patients and families. Provides health and medical education to patients and families.
* Refers patients as needed to appropriate medical specialists and other health care professionals to ensure appropriate multidisciplinary care is provided.
* Documents medical and clinical care in the patient's medical record. Assigns the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to permit third\-party insurance billing.
* Supervises other medical professionals.
* Adheres to the principles of medical ethics.

Founded in 1894, UNC REX Healthcare (a member of UNC Health Care) is a private, not\-for\-profit health care system that joined UNC Health Care in 2000\. In addition to a 660\-bed facility in Raleigh, UNC Rex also offers a range of health care services at locations across Wake County.
