**I. BASIC FUNCTION:**
The Pharmacist\-in\-Charge (PIC) is responsible for the day\-to\-day management, control, and compliance of pharmacy operations in accordance with Health Center policies, professional standards of practice, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including Missouri Board of Pharmacy requirements. The PIC ensures safe, legal, and effective pharmacy practice while supporting high\-quality patient care and operational excellence.
The PIC serves as the pharmacist designated to the Missouri Board of Pharmacy and is accountable for ensuring pharmacy operations are conducted in compliance with all regulatory and professional requirements.
**II. INTRADEPARTMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS:**
Department Officer: Chief Pharmacy Officer
Reports to: Chief Pharmacy Officer
Supervises: All pharmacy services staff including but not limited to Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy intern(s)/student(s)
**III. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:**
1\. Maintains overall responsibility for the operation of the pharmacy in compliance with Missouri Board of Pharmacy regulations, including supervision of compounding, dispensing, and record keeping of all medications by pharmacists, technicians, and students.
* Ensures pharmacy compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and professional standards, including controlled substance laws and regulations.
* Maintains accurate records of drugs for both internal and external control and ensures records are readily retrievable for inspection and audit purposes.
* Responsible for the security, proper storage, and safeguarding of pharmaceuticals, including controlled substances.
* Directly involved in medication dispensing and patient counseling, including the development, implementation, and oversight of systems and standards of practice to ensure safe, efficient, and effective drug distribution and quality patient care.
