With a diverse collection of animals and a commitment to wildlife preservation, we provide engaging experiences for visitors of all ages.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Position Description:</strong></p> <p>Responsible for the inspection, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and general repair of the zoo. Performs assignments related to the upkeep of any zoo buildings, grounds, property, and animal habitats in a timely and efficient manner.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Team player who can follow directions and can make logical decisions.</li> <li>Perform general facilities duties including carpentry, drywall, masonry, welding, electrical work, plumbing, and basic HVAC.</li> <li>Safely operate construction related vehicles and machinery; this may include tractors, skid steer, lifts, and loaders.</li> <li>Safely operate battery and electric power tools.</li> <li>Assist all zoo departments with departmental repairs or maintenance related initiatives; this may include grounds, horticulture, and animal departments.</li> <li>Complete maintenance on animal habitats and support facilities while being able to follow all the rules regarding the animal safety and their habitats.</li> <li>Partner with outside contractors and volunteer groups on assigned projects.</li> <li>Assist with the setup and take down of special events.</li> <li>Receive and input work order information into a computer and cell phone.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Qualifications</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Three years of facilities or maintenance experience is preferred.</li> <li>Operating knowledge of power tools, machinery, and safety related equipment.</li> <li>Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and make repairs that may include electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.</li> <li>Manual dexterity to use several types of power tools.</li> <li>Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions; may need work in confined spaces.</li> <li>Able to work safely with ladders and work at heights.</li> <li>Strong general maintenance, plumbing, and basic HVAC skills are preferred.</li> <li>Basic computer and typing skills are required.</li> <li>Ability to work a flexible work schedule.</li> <li>The ability to effectively work solo or part of a team is required.</li> <li>Demonstrate a daily commitment to Nashville Zoo's mission and values.</li> <li>Maintain regular and reliable attendance.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Education/ Experience:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Must be at least 18 years of age.</li> <li>High school diploma or GED equivalent.</li> <li>1 year of general maintenance experience required.</li> </ul> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Physical Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ability to work outdoors year-round, including in inclement weather.</li> <li>Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period. Applicants must be able to bend, stoop and extend themselves, etc., as required for assigned tasks.</li> <li>Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.</li> </ul> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Work Schedule:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Weekdays, typically 7:00am to 3:30pm</li> <li>Some holiday work or weekend work may be required.</li> <li>Some work on special events may be required.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Pre-employment requirements:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Nashville Zoo is an EEO Institution and a Drug Free Workplace.</li> <li>Candidates for this position must submit to a criminal background check and pass a drug test.<strong> </strong></li> <li>Candidates for this position are subject to pre-employment and annual Tuberculosis Screenings.</li> </ul><div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="title">Pay Range</div><div class="pay-range"><span>$22.29</span><span class="divider">&mdash;</span><span>$22.29 USD</span></div></div></div>
